What Child Is This :: The Saviour

Day 25: The Saviour

Today in the city of David a Saviour was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord.
Luke 2:11

Merry Christmas!

We started this advent thinking about the line of Jesse, his family tree. Today, we celebrate that the branch, the Saviour, the Messiah, was born in Bethlehem, the city of David.

What child is this?!

‘This, this is Christ the King’

This child is the Christ, the Messiah, the Lord. He is God’s anointed King, who will rule from an everlasting throne.

He will rule his Kingdom with perfect peace, justice, and authority.

His reign will go unchallenged and be unending.

What child is this?!

’Nails, spear, shall pierce him through,
The cross he bore, for me, for you.
Hail, hail, the Word made flesh,
The Babe, the son of Mary.’

This mighty King is the suffering Saviour.

This child is the one who would rescue his people from an eternity of condemnation.

This King would bring rebellious, lost, wretches like you and me into his family, to share eternal riches, instead of eternal poverty. What grace and love!

It’s a busy day, but take time to give thanks and praise that the Saviour was born, died, rose, reigns, and will return.

If you haven’t yet trusted Jesus, do it today. What Christmas gift could be better than eternal life?

’Raise, raise a song on high,
the virgin sings her lullaby.
Joy, joy for Christ is born!
The Babe, the son of Mary!’
