Because of the LORD’s faithful love
we do not perish,
for his mercies never end.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness!
I say, “The LORD is my portion,
therefore I will put my hope in him.”
Lamentations 3:22-24
House parties, office parties, high school parties, pubs & clubs are filled with people looking all the more desperately for love at Christmas time. Countless guys and girls are on the hunt for someone to share a kiss under the mistletoe with.
It’s a scene played out countless times in lives across the world. Will romantic dreams be fulfilled at Christmas time?
For the fortunate ones, they might meet someone and share that kiss. It could be a sweet moment. It might end up in more dates. It might end up in romance.
But is it really love?
How long until the first argument comes? And then what?
How long until the romance fades? And then what?
It’s all too easy to let that be the end. If we’re not feeling it, then move on. Find someone else who will give you that romantic thrill. Find someone new to ‘love’.
Even the most committed couple will find it hard to always faithfully love their partner. In fact, as humans, it’s impossible to remain absolutely faithful. Some might have an affair, but others might secretly lust after another. Some might show their anger and start fights, but others might be quietly bitter and resentful.
We might not show our unfaithfulness, but the reality is being faithful is hard.
We face a daily challenge to love others. Whether that’s romantically or not. It doesn’t come naturally to show love faithfully each day.
God’s love is nothing like ours.
God’s love is truly faithful.
God’s love never fails.
He doesn’t wait for romantic feelings to show His love.
His mercies are new each morning. He keeps showing His love each and every day.
Our very existence is testimony to God’s faithful love!
Every desire we have to know love is there because we’re made to delight in God’s eternal, unchanging and unfailing love.
Jesus came to show God’s faithful love. God gave Himself in love. Jesus died on the cross out of love. Jesus will bring His people to know the fullness of His love eternally.
We will never truly find satisfaction in romantic ideas of finding someone special under the mistletoe.
But we can find satisfying love in knowing Jesus.
O Come Let Us Adore Him!
A thought to remember: God’s love is faithful.
A question to ask: How does God’s faithful love satisfy you today?
